Cameroonian film on Witchcraft to hit German Ethnographic Film Festival
If marketing Cameroonian films is still a major challenge, exhibiting them at international forums is not, any longer. For the past couple of years, Cameroonian films have been fairing well at festivals, a clear indication that the country’s filmmakers are defying the not-too-smooth economic environment to do good quality productions.
In that light, the 11th Göttingen International Ethnographic Film Festival, taking place from May 9 to 13, 2012 will be another opportunity to savour a piece of good art, fashioned in a purely Cameroonian style. Sorcellerie, l’enfer d’une Croyance (The Nightmare of a Belief) is a well-researched documentary on sorcery scripted by Samuel Loe and Vincent Djeumo and written by Lars Gutsche and Bell Bona.
Subtitled in English and German, The Nightmare of a Belief is surely going to give critics at the festival a run for their time. Not only is the topic topical, the story is cinematographically and cinematically crafted to suit the context.

A keen observer of the evolution of filmmaking in Cameroon recently told TIPTOPSTARS that it’s Cameroon’s time to shine. He was not wrong! For quite some time, there is always at least a movie in gestation in Cameroon. As we write, there are quite a good number of them which will soon get out of the kitchen and be served on the dining table for consumers to savour what our now very inspired and determined filmmakers and artists have up their sleeves.

AMAA 2012: Cameroon secures a nomination

Just one film will be bearing Cameroon’s flag to this year’s Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA. Asoni, directed by Keka Sylvester has been nominated in the best film in an African language category. That is what came out at the AMAA nomination night on March 17 in Gambia’s capital Banjul. Cameroon drops from three in 2011 to one film this year – no remorse! “Though we are two films down from the three nominations we got in 2011, I must say that I still believe that our industry is growing steadily. It should be noted that this year’s AMAA judging, from the number of films the college received was highly contested. Getting a nomination is worth celebrating. Once more congratulations,” Akong Nwatum aka Damas wrote to the Cameroonian film family as he announced the 2012 AMAA nominations. He is the AMAA representative for Francophone Africa.
