africang2Cameroonian films, shot and produced in the United States of America are now becoming the order of the day. Though produced from afar, they tell Cameroonian stories the Cameroonian way to the utter satisfaction of the audience. One of such films is on its way to the market. Though in gestation, much is already filtering about The African Guest, TAG, a Robert LaRue production screenplayed by Nkwai Nkanya. According to the conceiver of the project, shooting of The African Guest will be completed this September in the sea-side resort of Limbe, Batoke, Indenau and Dumbo-Berabe. These places are found along the coast of Cameroon in the South West region of the country. “The first phase of the movie was shot in July in USA precisely in Denver, Lone Tree and Boulder in Colorado,” Nkwai told TIPTOPSTARS recently.

The US-based Cameroonian film maker informed us that The African Guest Limbe shooting will take place for not more than five days and by the time it is over, the entire project would have been shot for 20 days.

From all indications, The African Guest goes beyond a movie that will be thrown into the film market for buyers. Perhaps, that is the reason its screenwriter prefers it took more than just little resources to package the product. So, what did it take to realize this dream? “A fleet of production companies, over $ 29, 000, 00, a big technical crew and an enviable artistic team,” Nkwai replied. “Raising that sum has been the biggest challenge in the execution phase of the project. However The African Guest has been able to attract investors who got interested because of the story, the quality of the technical crew and the professionalism that I put in place to execute the project.
As at now we have four investors and there are others who are waiting at the door until the board members of the business unit meet to evaluate our financial situation
.”

Apart from KBU Global Consulting and DreamsALive and Boulder Community Media (BCM-WCM), a Cameroon-based film production house yet to be named will come on board once the Cameroonian phase of the production kicks off this September, TAG producers have confirmed.

Once The African Guest is completed, the project initiator reports that premieres for the movie will be organized. “We to do a premiere for the movie here in Boulder, Colorado by late November or early December 2012,” Nkwai said. “Several other premieres are envisaged for Aurora, CO., Texas, Maryland, Toronto, UK and Germany. However, our primary target is film festivals. With a compelling story, a professional technical crew will ensure a good quality product, we are confident The African Guest would successfully compete in any global film festival in the world.”

Produced at a time the Cameroonian film industry is making great in-roads, The African Guest is inspired by true events in the life of a young adult African who begins his journey in an enclave community in Cameroon. He is born into an under privileged but huge polygamous home. He is blessed with the opportunity to study at the university through the sponsorship of family friends and well-wishers. This hand of luck which conforms to his desire to acquire education accords him the chance to leave his community at a tender age. His return to visit with his family after graduation is an emotional turmoil. Our protagonist is stunned at terrifying lifestyle of his people, marked by ignorance, superstition, witch-hunting, etc. This precarious lifestyle drives Emmanuel nuts and this is compounded by his father's dead.
There is a need for someone to take over as a provider for the 41 siblings and the fifteen wives...
Emmanuel decides to put his life in the line, put his loving girlfriend on a hold and plunges into the wild. The rest of the story is told in the up-coming movie said to be a must-watch piece. TIPTOPSTARS will trail the project as it unfolds.
