Movie: Mairo Sanda crushes opponents

crashSince late last year, she is known to have fallen in love with movie production (co-produced Trouble Kingdom with Fred Kenyati, now on a UN mission in Cairo, Egypt). Yet, Mairo Sanda would not part from her first lover – acting. And even when the Atlanta-based artist hires the indefatigable Kang Quintus as director for her second production, Crush, the latter would prefer she picks up one of the roles. And that’s how producer Mairo got involved artistically in her own Crush, a movie that is announcing its arrival in a spectacular manner.

I played Tina, a bad and self-centred girl who would do everything to satisfy her selfish desires,” Mairo told us when we contacted the actress to explain her role and connection with Crush. “Tina sets her community ablaze by putting people at loggerheads and the rest follows,” the actress continued.

Despite being her own production, the director of Crush thought Mairo was the artist good enough for that role. Of course, in many of her movie jobs, Mairo has played the villain and she seems to be shaping her acing towards such roles.

Beyond just taking part in the movie as an actor, Mairo thinks she accepted the script because it is maturely written, rich in dramatic suspense. “You’d be glued to your seat until you’ve watched the entire story,” said Mairo of Crush.

Perhaps, the fact that her interlocutors were a fantastic set of artists makes Crush a piece worth the salt. “They were just too wonderful on location and on set and I enjoyed working with them,” she explained.

Shot in Belgium in June this year, Crush is co-produced with Enah Jonscott and edited by Teh Reagan with Simon Tima as Director of Photography, D.O.P. Also featuring in the movie are Kang Quintus, Addy Ngonde, Jan Karrenmans and introducing Janelle Ngonde.

The Sumith Productions movie will be premiered in Cameroon in November this year.
