Cameroonian movie: Critical Point awaited

qtu pics 532More than ever, the Cameroonian diaspora has demonstrated an admirable determination to fuel the country's film industry in this era of stiff competition. While the US and UK have been fanning the flames for the past couple of years, Belgium has from nowhere brought in a new steam that seems to pull the locomotive even faster.

After Shades (released in 2010) and Chloe (premiered in December 2011), here comes Critical Point, another Cameroonian film. Critical Point hits the market in April 2012 after post-production that is expected to last for six weeks beginning March 2012. "The last scenes of the movie are currently being shot and we expect to round off by the end of February," producer and director Kang Quintus told TIPTOPSTARS Editor on the line to Antwerp, Belgium.

According to Kang who is the author of the story, Critical Point is an action-packed film that will play on the movie taste bud of viewers, causing them to want to watch it again and again. The movie brings out the tribulations of the protagonist, Nchia Teddy who is caught up with the realities of existence in an attempt to break through an established system. He later comes across Johnson Dug, an old time friend, now a drug dealer who introduces him to his line of business. Teddy discovers the code of breaking through an impermeable system and decides to bite the finger that fed him. What becomes of him is what the rest of the story in Critical Point unveils.

Shot on locations in Belgium and Holland, the 95-minutes-long Summit Productions movie is inspired by the author's experience in Antwerp, his home town. " One hot summer afternoon as I hung out at an Antwerp square, I spotted three men overtly sharing drugs amongst themselves. I immediately tried to imagine the chain of activities that usually go on during such transaction from the drug barons to the distributors. That's how I developed the storyline," Kang explained. The writer's challenge however was how to approach the topic in an exceptional way. "I then opted to stitch my story from three angles, joblessness, credit card hacking and drug dealing,." he said.

Starring in Critical Point are Ghanaian actor Samuel Ruffy Qunsah, Kang Quintus and Samy Diko. Also featuring are two Cameroon hope-rising models Diana Tambe and Belagie Ayuk, 2 Big, Martina Malike Mukete, Valentine Maboh, Adeline Ngonde, Gipraise, Florence Enow, Sone Eric, L2 Loko, Adeline Tanila, Emilia Abangenow, Princess Bridget and others.
Critical Point is produced by Florence Enow with Simon Timah aka Tima Vision as Director of Photography (D.O.P). It will be circulated in Africa, Europe and the USA.
