Almanac: Yesterday’s Facebook, Today’s By-gone

social-media1Nothing has been more instrumental in fading the previous generation than the speedy metamorphosis of the world from the manual to the electronic age. That twist of events is a reality that is hard to counter. Yet, this evolution has left its own sad traces on the exiting generation and to an extent, part of this writer’s (young though) generation. One of such dreaded indelible marks is nostalgia, the kind that disturbs with unrepentant wickedness. Nostalgia for things (people so affectionately got attached to) gradually being erased by the coming of new ones. Some of these new things (not to be proud of anyway) are just the recycled versions of the ones that existed in the past. Or, should we say their creation was inspired by the latter.

CEA tickets: Foreign communities showing up more
News / Latest / Ernest Kanjo

ceaawcrds

There has been a massive show of interest in the up-coming Cameroon Entertainment Awards by foreign communities in the USA. Reports say they have been on a mad rush for CEA tickets as though they were going to get finish so soon. According to the Executive Producers of CEA, Maybelle Boma and Anne Etape, African communities, especially those with fellow compatriots as nominees have been on a mad rush for CEA tickets. The Executive Producers report that thanks to Majid Michael, nominated in the best Pan African actor category, Ghanaians living in the USA have been picking up the CEA tickets in their numbers. “We will be in Washington DC to support our star,” a Ghanaian living in Ohio told TIPTOPSTARS, referring to movie nominee Majid Michael.

On the other hand, Nigerians and Senegalese have launched a CEA ticket purchase competition and are rushing for them. In short, reports say these communities have pulled out the greatest number of CEA tickets from the sales box so far. Explaining this trend, CEA organizers see the presence of P-Square (nominated in the best Pan African artist category), Akon and Viviane N’dour (same category) and Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade, Jim Iyke and Stella Damasus (best Pan African actress) as reason for the massive purchase of tickets by Nigerians and Senegalese respectively. “A Cameroonian event is our event, that’s why CEA nominated Nigerians as well. I can’t wait to be there and see my stars coming from Nollywood,” Nigerian Taiwo, also living in Ohio told us.

Meanwhile, Americans who recently discovered their roots in Cameroon and commonly known as CamAmericans now are also leading the CEA ticket purchase. This group would unconditionally endorse any initiative aimed at building and safeguarding the image of Cameroon, a probable reason why they have engaged the ticking buying with no resentment.

Initially sold at $100, the price has dropped to $50 to enable guests come to the event in their numbers.

Cameroonians feet-drawing

Cameroonians have been procuring CEA tickets since the launch of sales. They have expressed a lot of interest in the event and are doing everything to be part of history-making. Yet, according to sales records, they are still trailing their counterparts from Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal. They are however expected to pick up, especially as the event draws near.

CEA official trailer set for June 15

Producers of the Cameroon Entertainment Awards official trailer have been spending sleepless nights, working on the production. The promo video will hit the airwaves/world wide web on the early hours of June 15, 2012. “Then we would have negotiated a new bend and things will move a little faster,” said Maybelle Boma, Executive Producer of CEA. Meantime, some goodwill and well-wishing Cameroonian producers in the US have prepared and YouTube tentative trailers for the event. The CEA organizing team is appreciative of this kind gesture which according to them is an exciting show of solidarity and concern for the event that seeks to promote Cameroon.

The CEA starts on July 27 and gets into the prize-awarding phase on July 28 at the Cramton Auditorium of the Howard University, Washington DC. It is the first edition of an event that will eventually be organized on an annual basis.

panditta5Among the special gifts God (whom she worships with no resentment) has blessed Pandita Njoh Eta with, that of a golden voice is the most outstanding. It is with this gift that she praises the Almighty, proof of which those who do not know the US-based Cameroonian gospel singer yet will discover when she releases a much-awaited maiden album early next year. “I’ve all along been interpreting songs done by other gospel artistes, but this time, I have decided to take a step ahead by sharing what God has given me with the rest of the world. This is the first time I’m actually going to be doing something on my own,” Pandita told TIPTOPSTARS on the line to Cincinnati, one of Ohio’s most populous and developed metropolises
