Yaounde Actors’ Guild in The Making

momas_ac_team1.jpgThe Cameroonian film industry is gradually bearing fruits from its four conventions held since the creation of a caretaker body to put in place a veritable film structure in the country. One of such results is the appointment of members to a caretaker committee that will prepare the ground for the creation of the Yaounde branch of the Actors’ Guild. Headed by renowned actor, Muma Pascal, the caretaker committee was installed recently in Yaounde by the Cameroon Film Industry (CFI) Secretary General, Chiatoh Collins. The five other members of the team include Billy Bob Ndive Lifongo (Secretary General), Keti Sylvanus Kiven (Public Relations Officer), Lydia Nanyongo Ikome (Adviser), Ruth Tayou and Menyen Mbuh Glory. Installing them into their functions, the CFI SG urged members of the committee to be committed and work in the interest of Yaounde actors. Chiatoh said CFI Yaounde and the entire organisation look up to them with hope. The eventual creation of a worthwhile Yaounde branch of the Actors’ Guild was therefore their major challenge, the SG said further. Chiatoh re-iterated that Yaounde was a special branch on which CFI counted much. “It is the pivot of the organisation and it is here that many things can happen,” he said. And added: “So, you must take up your task seriously.” On his part, the coordinator, Muma Pascal enjoined actors to put hands on deck so that they could come out with a befitting guild that will protect their interest. “You will not regret being a member of the Actors’ Guild,” Muma promised. He further told this reporter that his major task was to sensitize actors on the importance of belonging to a guild. Also, Muma revealed that he was going to invite foreign actor trainers who will drill Yaounde actors. It should be recalled that Muma was designated to head the Yaounde caretaker committee of the Actors’ Guild by the Kumba convention in November 2008. Muma Pascal alias BOB is one of the most prolific and finest actors so far in the country. He has featured in more than 18 movies including Heaven Forbids, Giant Broom, Switching Hearts, Mission to Damunza and Mark of the Absolute.  Recently, he featured in Forsaken Rose and Clash of Inheritance. Both movies will be released in the coming weeks. The committed actor now has a new task as an administrator and Yaounde looks up to him for the future of an Actors’ Guild worth the name.
