STORIES ON_RADIO
The now news-making Cameroonian presence of NETFLIX goes beyond the faces of actors, performing in the movies. It is also about some of the stories, written by Cameroonians. A fortnight ago, Ruth Nkweti hit her first scriptwriting credit on the internationally acclaimed online movie streamer through SEVEN. If you have watched that movie, then, know it was written by the Cameroonian who is also a talented actress and a producer. But how did this come about and how does she feel having a story she wrote, beamed to the world via NETFLIX? Ruth Nkweti tells us on radio this Saturday, the same day Rene Etta will be explaining how he got on the MALAMBA movie project to be filmed in Johannesburg soon. Etta’s camera skills speak volumes, like Danielle Asah Mantho whose skills in digital marketing put her at the top of her game. In Buea last week however, Danielle who doubles as a motivational book author preferred to let women see their worth during this COVID-19 pandemic. She throws more light on the seminar this Saturday on radio. While Danielle was drilling women on how to make use of their potentials, Ebangha Njang was spotlighting one of their kind in the latest edition of SA MAJESTE magazine. The publisher presents this new issue of the now leading women’s magazine. From Essen in Germany, Quincy and Davies take us on a ride across the world of marriage and attempt an answer to whether a couple needs a counsellor, whereas civil status officials usually caution against bringing in a third party to interfere in marital issues. These brilliant Africans will be guests in the 178th edition of African Fiesta this Saturday, May 15, 2021 as from 9:30am EST (2:30pm gmt+1).

RENE ETTA, HIS CAMERA AND MALAMBE
News / Latest / Ernest Kanjo

TTS Therapy
Rene Etta is not new in the film industry. He is one of the finest cinematographers on the continent and has worked as Director of Photography in some of Africa’s most successful film projects. Etta shot to the limelight years ago through brilliant TV commercials he and crews he worked with, made. Before THE FISHERMAN’S DAIRY and THERAPY, two of his recent works, streaming on NETFLIX, the award-winning cinematographer had accompanied scores of film projects through which some of Cameroon’s bests actors were elevated. Under the banner of GOHFA STUDIOS and with brain boxes such as Anurin Nwenembom, Itambi Delphine, Achille Brice, etc, Rene contributed enormously to building an Indie film culture that inspired many young people in the seventh art. Yet, the Buea-based dexterous camera operator prefers to let only his works tell his story. Dust was yet to settle on his recent NETFLIX achievements and prizes won from THE FISHERMAN’S DAIRY when another international assignment came calling on the filmmaker of great repute. Last week, therefore, it was announced Etta had been picked as the Director of Photography, D.O.P for STATE OF MALAMBA, an anticipated pan-African film production that will cast actors drawn from across the continent, including prominent ones such as Ramsey Nouah, John Dumelo, Van Vicker, Nadia Buari and Kenya’s Sarah Hassan. Helmed by Zimbabwean Marc T. Mandisoul,  STATE OF MALAMBA will be filmed in Johannesburg, South Africa.

ETTAAhead of the continental assignment, Rene Etta who is also the producer of CHARIOT OF THE GODS (Best Cameroonian Film - CAMIFF 2021), speaks to Apex 1 Radio. What these recent accomplishments mean to his career, how he got picked for MALAMBA and more, will constitute our conversation with the indefatigable filmmaker. Etta will be one of our special guests on AFRICAN FIESTA this Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 9:30am EST (2:30pm gmt+1).

Choripan Argentine Grill, Fork in Nigeria introducing new aroma

Choripan Argentine Grill, Fork in Nigeria introducing new aroma
It is generally considered to be a basic human need for physical survival, but food goes beyond that. It is an important cultural asset to every people across the world. The interesting thin about food is that it comes in varieties – and so, you travel across the world, you come across different types of food with different tastes - different colors – different species and you name it.

For one thing, food distinguishes a people from others. Even when two countries of two peoples may eat the same thing, there is always something that comes in to differentiate – either the way the food is prepared or the way it is eaten. A good example is rice. Rice may be a staple food, but they way it is prepared in Argentina would be different from the way rice is prepared in Nigeria. The way rice is made in Nigeria, is different from the way it is made in Ghana.

A people are so attached to its food to the extent where even thousands of miles away from home, they would always make sure they get hold of their food.

Argentines and Nigerians in the United States are living up to that and savoring their food, thanks to restaurants run by their people. Two of such restaurants are the Chopiran Argentine Grill and the Fork in Nigeria, respectively.

The common thing about Fork in Nigeria & Choripan Argentine Grill is that both outfits are restaurants. They differ in that while the former is a food truck, the latter is harbored in a building. Both restaurants serve food but while the one is African, the other is Argentine. The one thing both restaurants help us learn is cultural diversity which is one of America’s biggest assets.
